With all the focus on the e.l.f. Studio BB Cream, the e.l.f. Studio Moisturizing Lipstick was an unexpected surprise.

Most of the shades I wanted were all sold out, so I only bought one color.

Packaging

The packaging is not like the plastic tubes of the e.l.f. Mineral Lipstick (review here), but is identical to the metal tubes of the Studio Lip Exfoliator.

The tube is taller, yet narrower than the Mineral Lipstick packaging.

I can’t tell if the lipstick is cracking at the bottom or if there are just the odd markings/creases. I suppose I’ll just have to wait and see if the lipstick breaks off at some point.

One thing I don’t like about the packaging is that there is some resistance when replacing the lid. It kind of feels like when you accidentally smush your lipstick against the top of the cap. Sometimes I double-check to make sure the lipstick isn’t damaged.

Formulation

It’s amazing the difference in quality between a $1 and $3 product. The e.l.f. Essential Lipsticks are cakey, dry, and break easily (almost all of mine have broken within four or five uses). The Studio Lipsticks, on the other hand, are smooth and moisturizing, and packaged in a durable tube.

Yet another product shot…

There is a scent like cocoa butter in the lipstick. It’s similar to my The Elixery lipstick I received in the October Petit Vour box. I’m not sure if I’m smelling the shea butter or the added fragrance.

The downside to the Studio Moisturizing Lipstick is that it contains mineral oil, paraffin, and propylparaben.

Shades

There are ten shades available, running from true pinks to brick reds.

Cheeky [Shimmer]

I was really surprised by this shade. From the photos I saw online this looked like a muddy brick shade, and as such, wasn’t my first pick. Or my second or third. I have enough of those shades from the e.l.f. Mineral Lipstick line.

Swatch of the e.l.f. Studio Moisturizing Lipstick in Cheeky

I did not expect to receive a beautiful rosy coral shade. These are the types of shades I love most. It’s a pity that e.l.f. does not have another shade like it in any of their other lines.

Unlike a lot of e.l.f. lip products, the shimmer is very noticeable, to the point that it borders on the frosty side.

Final Thoughts

Pros: Moisturizing formula, good selection of shades, pretty colors
Cons: Shimmery/frosty finish, contains mineral oil, paraffin, parabens & fragrance

So far I’ve been very pleased with the e.l.f. Moisturizing Lipstick.

This is one of the best, if not the best, budget vegan lipstick out there. The only other product that can compete is the e.l.f. Essential Jumbo Lip Gloss Sticks (review here). I will point out that they do not have mineral oil or paraffin (but they still contain parabens).

The Studio Moisturizing Lipsticks are a great addition to the e.l.f. line and I definitely recommend giving them a try—that is, if you are not bothered by the inclusion of mineral oil and paraffin or parabens.
