My apologies for taking so long to post this review.

I received my box about a half week later than most—I’m convinced that the Post Office lost track of my package at least once, but possibly twice. I changed the type of background paper I used for photographing the box and that resulted in really low quality photos that were an absolute nightmare to edit. I also have been dealing with a bunch of RL issues as the school year ends and my kids have tons of projects due (they’re not the best at communication).

You might have noticed that the format is a little different. I’m making to make my site more standards compliant and easier to find.

Whew! Let’s get to the review.

Unboxing & First Impressions

Keeping with the repeated French themes, this month’s theme is:

Boheme Beauty ~unconventional, feminine, pure~

While it’s cute, I’m not sure I understand how it relates to the contents of the box.

The Box

This month I received four products. One was full-size, two were deluxe samples, and the last was a sample size.

It’s not vitally important, but Lily Lolo and Jane Scrivner both appear to be British brands.

Lily Lolo Pressed Mineral Eye Shadow Quad

Finally got the eyeshadow palette this month! Judging by the sneak peak for April, I was sure it was going to be the Aromi lip gloss. Unfortunately, while checking to see if others had received their box, I was spoiled and discovered that this box included the eyeshadow palette.

I prefer to be surprised each month and do everything in my power to avoid spoilers.

Lily Lolo Eye Shadow Quad in Molten Bronze

There are two versions of the palette and I received the Molten Bronze version. I’m kind of torn because I feel that the Smoky Rose palette is very striking and I absolutely love the colors.

On the other hand, I’m not sure they would work well with my skin tone. Molten Bronze is probably the better choice in the long run.

Box & product packaging

Overall the consistency is good. The binding agent in the palette is jojoba oil, so I’m impressed the formula is as creamy as it is. While hasn’t quite reached the level of creaminess of either the Wet n Wild Eyeshadow Trio or any of the Urban Decay eyeshadows—though to be fair, these use completely different binding agents than the Lily Lolo palette—it’s levels above the Everyday Minerals pressed eye palettes that were also jojoba based.

The packaging is a heavy, matte white case that includes a very small double ended sponge applicator with the company logo on it.

Now for the eyeshadows themselves. None have any listed names. Most of the shades have decent payoff and all four have a buttery consistency.

Pink [pearl]

This pearly shade had the thinnest formula of the four. It’s good for subtle highlighting and, thankfully, there’s not tons of shimmer, but if you want a strong pop of color as a highlighter, you’re going to need a different eyeshadow.

Golden Bronze [shimmer/metallic]

This shade reminds me a lot of Urban Decay’s Half Baked in both formulation and color, although this shade leans warmer and is more vibrant. It has the best payoff of the four shades and the most creamy consistency.

Bronze [shimmer/metallic]

Similar to the golden bronze above, but darker and less gold. It’s similar to Urban Decay’s Smog, and has the second best payoff.

Graphite [glitter]

I expected this dark grey shade to have a lot of color payoff, but it’s on the thin side. It takes several layers to get a nice charcoal grey color. The eyeshadow contains small, silver glitter flakes.

I find that it works well as an eyeliner.

Kimberly Parry Creamy Cleanser

I was just thinking that it would be a great addition for Petit Vour to include a facial cleanser. Of course there were the the samples in a couple of boxes recently, but I’m talking more about a deluxe sample size. It doesn’t hurt that this is a cleanser I can use on my dry face. The other cleaners I’ve received from Petit Vour have usually been foaming cleansers for normal skin.

All cleansers dry my face to some degree, but the Creamy Cleanser doesn’t seem to be overly drying. There’s a slight tightening to my skin, but nothing I can’t handle. The weather is transitioning to summer and I find that I generally only need to follow up with a serum. I can usually skip a moisturizer if I’m not going to be wearing a tinted moisturizer/bb cream or powder that day.

I did notice the occasional burning sensation after applying a moisturizer to my recently cleansed skin. I’m not sure what causes it, but I do have other products that likewise cause a slight burning that don’t affect most users. Oddly, the burning doesn’t seem to occur after I apply a serum, only a moisturizer.

The product contains plankton extract. I was curious as to which plankton was used since plankton can include living organisms. I couldn’t find any information directly from the company and outside sources only told me what I already know about plankton. I think it’s neat that there are vegan sources of plankton extract (I also discovered other vegan products with plankton extract). I’m still wondering what kind of plankton is sourced.

Creamy Cleanser and it’s little helmet

I’m absolutely loving the container. First off, it has a little helmet! How cute is that? I’ve never seen anything like it. Some products I’ve purchased have had a little clip that fits around the pump, but never a full blown helmet. But it’s not just adorbs, it’s also totally functional. I’m definitely keeping and reusing the bottle for future trips. I’m always paranoid about leaking and the helmet prevents the pump from being pressed down during transport.

Jane Scrivner Skin Elixir

A sample sized vial of serum. I’m actually glad that this was a small vial because I’m still working through the serums I received from the past couple of boxes.

The vial contains roughly a week’s worth of product. Due to the manufacturing, this is a one time use product. I don’t see any way to reuse the vial.

Jane Scrivner Skin Elixir sample vial

The main scent I detect is ylang ylang. The serum has the following essential oils in an organic base: ylang ylang, elemi, eucalptus, frankincense, lemongrass, lavender, myrrh, sandalwood and sweet orange.

It smells nice and hydrates well, but serums seem to universally be that way across the board. I don’t have any complaints about it.

I love roses so I think I would have liked to try the Rose Gold version, though I’m not sure if that was an option for this month’s box.

Harvey Prince Fragrance

I’ve never heard of this brand until this year. Petit Vour had mentioned it a lot recently on Facebook and Instagram the past couple of months so I knew to expect it around this time.

I prefer this size of perfume. I don’t wear a lot of perfume and I have a habit of changing it up a lot. I don’t want to invest $80 in one perfume and only wear that for years. I’d rather have smaller bottles and more options. I also feel that way about lipstick and wish companies would switch to smaller containers (like this one in my Instagram photo).

Yogini Fragrance

I’m debating carrying this in my purse. I usually avoid carrying perfumes around to avoid any accidents. It’s bad enough when lip gloss gets everywhere. I don’t even want to imagine perfume contaminating everything.

I really like the scent. It’s similar to what I usually wear, but still different enough to be interesting.

Harvey Prince lists the following notes:

Sandalwood, golden amber, sensual incense, Egyptian myrrh, pink grapefruit, blackcurrant buds, lily of the valley, star jasmine, rose petals, ylang-ylang, cardamom, madagascar vanilla

It’s sounds like the perfume would be warmer and heavier, but it’s a lighter scent than one would expect.

Final Thoughts

We’re really getting spoiled by Petit Vour. The eyeshadow alone is valued at $32 and the perfume—while a deluxe sample, I still consider a full size product in my mind—is $21. And that doesn’t even include the deluxe sample of the Creamy Cleanser. This is all in a $15/mo box.
